Benjamin Rush PTA

PTA organizes an after school enrichment program twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. We are thrilled to be able to drive this extracurricular program that offers additional academic, physical, and social development of our elementary students after school hours.

PARENT CHAPERONES NEEDED:

Parent chaperones make our classes successful by tracking attendance and helping our students when needed. All classes must have a chaperone to run. All chaperones must be LWSD approved volunteers (a simple background check). Volunteer to be a chaperone for the entire season and your child can attend the class for free!

MONDAY


Running Club - With Ms. Dompier [SOLD OUT] 

Do you enjoy being outside and running? Then running club is just for you! We will meet on Mondays for 6 weeks, starting Monday, October 7th and going until Monday, November 18th from 3:15-4:00 pm in the gym.

Please be sure to wear running shoes and bring a water bottle each week. We will be running for longer periods of time, as well as playing games!

Basketball Development Practice (3rd -5th) - By Backboard Basics [SOLD OUT] 

At Backboard Basics, our Basketball Program provides 8 - 10 practices for young athletes to develop their skills and build a strong fundamental base. We strive to create an environment of support and inclusivity, where both new and experienced players are encouraged to grow and sharpen their skills. We are dedicated to changing the culture of basketball and providing an exciting and fun learning experience for all!

Scratch Coding - By Mighty Coders

Get ready to learn algorithms for coding using Scratch and other block coding tools! Scratch is a high-level, block-based visual programming language and website aimed primarily at children as an educational tool. Learn more about Scratch here: https://scratch.mit.edu/

Gamebots Robotics - By Snapology

Calling all gamers! Have a blast creating robotic games each week while learning about robotics. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, programming, and pulleys as they create fun to play games. Whether creating a robotic hockey player, pinball machine, or a ring toss, your child is sure to have fun building, learning, and playing.

Upper Primary Drama Class - By Drama Kids

Are you ready to unleash your child’s creativity and passion for the performing arts? Look no further than Drama Kids! Our exciting composite drama classes for grades 3rd-5th provide a transformative journey for your stars. Led by our expert teachers, your student will explore various dramatic techniques, hone their acting skills, and flourish in a supportive and fun-filled environment. Join this fall’s session and watch your child’s confidence and creativity soar on stage!

Hip Hop - By Dukane Studios

Get your kid’s afternoon off to a great start with some music and fun! Hip Hop is a high energy type of dance, originating from funk and street dance. The classes focus on different stylized techniques, rhythm, and isolations. Hip Hop class encourages dancers to engage in freestyle to help build style and confidence.

Does your kid love sports? This class is a great addition to understanding coordination and agility that can help increase their sports performance too!

Intermediate Choir - With Mrs. Hodges

Calling all third, fourth and fifth graders! Choir is a great place to make friends, visit cool places and to grow as a singer. I am so excited to be working with Ben Rush students this year, and I know we will have a lot of fun singing, performing and having a fun party/celebration (with treats!) at the end! 

There will be extra costs for fun field trips/performances:

  • Thunderbirds Hockey Game (in Kent): November 2nd
  • Lake Washington Learning Community Concert: November 26th
  • Additional concerts at: Crossroads, concert in gym (in Spring) - Dates TBD 

If a student does NOT have a Choir T-shirt already (from a sibling, for example), they will need to purchase one for $10. This can be done during Registration. We will wear the T-shirt for most of our engagements. I look forward to singing in joy with your child!

Knitting for Beginners - With Ms. Lunbeck

Knitting is a method for turning strings of yarn into a woven item, including hats, scarves, sweaters, bags, and more! It is a popular hobby that many people use to relax, reduce stress, and fulfill their creative side. Did you know that many movie stars knit when on set? Look it up! There are so many celebrities that knit in their free time. 

If you are interested in joining our Ben Rush Loom Knitting Club, you will get your own knitting loom kit and yarn, have the opportunity to learn how to knit on a rectangular loom using several different techniques, and create a knitting creation(s) of your own!

Cartooniversity - By Jeff Johnson Artworks

A unique opportunity for kids of all skill levels to learn the basics of cartoon drawing from local professional cartoonist, Jeff Johnson, through a series of fun, engaging, challenging projects. Areas of study include: faces, expressions, hair, bodies in action, positions, character development, backgrounds, perspective and much, much more. Each student is encouraged to develop their own cartooning style. Emphasis is on having fun in a safe, positive and creative classroom environment.

Putting on a Play - By Studio East

Learn how to work with a script in this class where we will work on a short play as a class! Learn how to embody an assigned character, learn lines, and put a play together from start to finish in this lively acting class. See an example of class work here

All classes end in a final performance for families to come see their students shine! Drama classes are a fun way for students to get creative and explore the arts. Classes also teach important skills like confidence, teamwork, creative thinking, and problem solving. All classes taught by professional teaching artists!

Skate Journeys uses after school skate programs as an opportunity to provide students the opportunity to learn about the sport of skating at their school in a non-classroom environment. Snapology Scientist  - By Snapology

Virtually all children love to experiment and ask questions about the world around them, making them perfect little scientists! In this program, our aim is to help children explore their curiosities and cultivate a deep love for science by experiencing the different domains of scientific study. Students will engage with concepts in the fields of astronomy, earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics using LEGO® bricks and other interactive learning tools. Remember, it is our goal to make science fun, exciting, and approachable at Snapology!
