The Ben Rush Spelling Bee is designed after the Scripps National Spelling Bee. It is an excellent program aimed at increasing the participant's spelling abilities, vocabulary, and learning how to compete in a safe supportive environment.
Registration for the 2020 Spelling Bee is now closed.
Program Overview
Enrollment: Registration is open from 10/18-10/31. There is a $10 enrollment fee to cover study sessions, access to the words lists, and written and oral tournaments. Click here to register! Only students registered in our spelling bee program may participate in the written and oral tournaments. Scholarships are available through the PTA.
Practice Sessions: We offer three voluntary one hour practice sessions on the following Fridays: 11/15, 12/13, and 1/10 from 3:20-4:20 pm. Students will be quizzed on the current study list using both oral and written formats. Additional age appropriate activities will be given to facilitate learning of the study lists. If your child plans on attending these sessions, please indicate so on the registration form.
Tournaments: A written tournament will occur on Saturday, January 25th at 9:30 am. Finalists will then compete in our oral spelling bee tournament on Saturday, February 22nd at 9:00 am. The winner will advance to the regional level. Only students registered in our spelling bee program may participate.
Prizes: All entries will receive participation certificates. Additional prizes will be awarded following the tournaments.
Volunteers: We need volunteers to help administer the practice sessions. If you are interested in volunteering, please click here!
