Thank you for volunteering!  As a volunteer you are the second set of eyes and ears for the instructor to ensure that students are in a safe environment upon arrival, during class and upon their departure. You are instrumental in helping each student participate and enjoy the class.

Note: a class will need to be cancelled if you are not in attendance at the class.

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the start time of class.

1) Student sign-in. Assist instructor with ensuring students get signed in for class. The class list will be posted to the website with the kids’ names and parent phone numbers. Please be discreet with this privileged information. Volunteers use contact info to contact parents who are late to pick up their student or if the student gets sick during the afterschool class.

• If a student registered for the class does not show and the instructor has not received contact from the parent(s)/guardian(s) that they would be absent, check with the office and see if student was in school that day. Below find the class rosters.

2) You are not required to assist the instructor; however, you should remain present in the room during the class.

3) You should be available to students who need assistance with something such as: a quiet moment or break from the activity, if they need to contact their parents, restroom break. For restroom breaks, it is best to only permit one student at a time. Please check that the student comes back into the classroom.  If the students are unruly or need direction, feel free to provide it.

4) Remain at the class until all students are signed out.

5) For safety there should be two adults present (you and the instructor). For example, if the class is over and a student is still waiting for a parent to pick them up, you can take that student to the office to wait. If it is after 4:00 p.m. and the office is closed the student should wait with you.
